Social entrepreneurship and photography in India
So ,this is a long pending update. So many things are going at one moment of point , it is difficult to keep a track of them .But one has too . Anyways I wanted to share a couple of updates . A few people are doing great work on the field and it is wonderful to connect across with them .
One of them is Gauri Singh , who’s based in Ludhiana and Gurgaon. She started a couple of social set ups with an aim to provide solutions for urban poor. So we connected across with an agenda to photograph her set up in Ludhiana.
Both of us were very clear from beginning itself –
a) We wanted to photograph Urban Poverty in the city but make it less glamorous and show the real life situation
b) Focus on women
c) Avoid any usual pictures one see in NGO’s .. kids, people staring at you curiously and happily when you are walk on the street and point your cameras to them for a moment . Totally avoid the cliches . Why show something that can be seen already ?
So we instead went inside the homes, met the families, spent time with them, observed ,checked for anything different, tracked their daily lives and took the pictures. I also wanted to take pictures that personify dignity and strength in working conditions than lack of options . Am happy what came out of it. Here are some of those pictures
Also, excited to work alongside a good friend on a project that is dear to us both . Rustam is aiming to celebrate Independence Day in Delhi in a different way , and we have decided to do a small photography exhibition of images taken by kids at Happy Camera Club in New Delhi. The exhibition will be one of the support events that will eventually culminate in his 15th August aim of providing funding to 1000 students. One can see more of it here
