In Bangalore we talked about entrepreneurship, the role of a conformist society and photography. The ten odd days were spent in reaching out, meeting this amazing set of people who in their own ways are doing things they feel right about at their own pace. Truly Bangalore has to be the place for entrepreneurs and individuals with a sense of freedom. Entrepreneurship happens yesterday, action happens today and in long term we are all dead. The thought aligns and unifies the entire gamut from film makers, social entrepreneurs, photographers, IT turned independent owners, farmers, writers, journalist, professors and so on. In a matter of space and thought it was all applicable. And a very joyous journey, one to be enjoyed and devoured.
I attended Open Show where i presented photographs from Rajasthan . Importantly we talked about doing long term photography project and how big a luxury it is in today’s world. In terms of dedicating time and allocating funds towards the project. Mind you ,it is not everyday that you can take off for your project especially if it comes out from your own pocket. You need to invent ways to reach there and have a doggedly strong focus towards it not loosing its site. Along the way things change, landscape varies and with it your photographs change too. To decide when to end is a matter of your choice but once you are deep into the project it shall come naturally.
I also fended off the difficult questions like how did you start photography ? how do you avoid cliches and folks ? and so on…I recommend everyone to apply for Open Show. The one in India is organized by a very dynamic and energetic team. More details here
A gathering at Open Show@Open Show
And then it was back to running around the town. In between you stop by at Malleswaram and just take a stroll, have a coffee or two and wait for rain to pour. Attend a friend’s wedding and babysit your niece for exactly fifteen minutes till she gets bored of you.
We did a photo exhibit of Happy Camera Club at Ashoka Foundation in Bangalore . I really like this organization. So, basically one of their core functions is in field of social entrepreneurship .Individuals working in a wide and varied field of development using adversity as their tool to create a sustainable and profitable ventures with benefit of society as main reason.
One thing lead to another and the icing on the cake was being part of an open discussion between a gathering of travelers in an interesting space called Jagaa in Bangalore. The event was organized by The Alternative ,an online platform that seeks to chronicle and support social development in India. Met folks from The Indian Backpacker, Travel Another India,Nomads and so on . Hopefully that space shall grow. More about them here
As for me its a nice time to be back in Delhi after a month’s gap .Time to recollect the thoughts and figure out how one can carry on the momentum
