Untold Stories of Rajasthan : the village of Siyana
Chances are you have not heard of Siyana and will probably not head to Bikaner on a daily basis .In case you do plan to make travel plans to the city, there might be destinations that might top your list like Jaipur, Udaipur, and Jodhpur which are probably much more popular than Bikaner, that sits afar on the north west of Rajasthan.
This remoteness of Bikaner ,not being close to a major town works well for the city. Though the location of Bikaner is a bit remote, the connectivity via the national highway is smooth as a silk . And the city itself is bustling in nature.
Having said that, I would probably ball park a blog post on Bikaner next time around , for today I do want to highlight my visit and stay to a village close to Bikaner.
Siyana, is some 50 kms from Bikaner. To reach there one must head towards Deshnoke ( famous for its rat temple) and then take a detour on to Siyana .
Travel tip: Do check with a few locals on your way as there’s no sign board to Siyana.
We went to Siyana to experience the village life and enjoy the rustic charm. For starters, there was no TV , no media and no newspapers. A small market was the center of village which catered to its needs. The most famous spot of the village was the temple, which seemed pretty opulent compared to the village. For us the most interesting sight was that of peacocks which roamed aplenty in the village. For the few days we stayed, I ended up chasing peacocks as I tried to get a few decent shots of it. The villagers were pretty warm, though equally curious . We were lucky to witness a wedding taking place close to where we stayed. All night long villagers drank and sang local folks songs, while friends and family gathered for the occasion from far away places. So the important question- where to stay in case one does want to experience Siyana ?
Travel tip: We stayed at Bhawani ji’s place which he has made with a lot of passion and effort ( check the images below, seems like an Oasis in a desert) .The place is quite thoughtfully catered to the needs of a traveler and one I not disappointed with the warmth of the host.
